Continue ShoppingYou have seen them on Pinterest. You have admired them in jewellery boutiques. A ring where diamonds sit edge to edge, an unbroken surface of light, with no metal in sight between the stones.
That is an invisible set diamond ring — and if you have been told they are difficult to find, difficult to afford, or difficult to understand, this guide will change that.
In most diamond rings, metal does the holding. Prongs grip the stone from above. A bezel wraps around its edge. A channel runs along either side. In every case, some metal is visible on the surface of the ring — and some portion of the diamond is hidden behind it.
Invisible setting works differently. Each diamond is cut with a small groove on its underside. A framework of gold rails fits precisely into those grooves, holding every stone securely from below. Nothing touches the top surface of the diamond. No prong. No bezel. No visible metal at all.
What the eye sees is pure gemstone — an unbroken field of colour or sparkle, edge to edge, stone to stone.
This is where invisible setting earns its reputation as one of the most demanding techniques in fine jewellery.
Every stone must be cut to a precise, matching size. The grooves on the underside of each diamond must be cut to exact tolerances — too shallow and the stone will fall; too deep and the rail will show. Each stone is then slid individually onto the gold framework, aligned with its neighbours so the edges meet seamlessly.
A single invisible set ring can take a skilled jeweller several days to complete. At Trinity Designer Jewel, our Bangkok craftsmen have been refining this technique for over 20 years. Every piece is inspected by hand before it leaves the atelier.
Because nothing interrupts the face of the stone.
In a prong setting, four or six metal tips cover portions of the diamond's edge. In an invisible setting, the entire top surface of every stone is exposed. Multiple stones set edge to edge read to the eye as one continuous surface — larger, more vivid, and more impactful than the individual stones would suggest.
A Trinity invisible set ruby ring using twelve individual stones will appear to the eye as one bold, unbroken cushion of deep red. The brain sees one large gemstone. The reality is twelve precisely matched stones working together.
Yes — significantly.
A single 2-carat round brilliant diamond in a solitaire setting can cost anywhere from $15,000 to $40,000 or more depending on cut, colour and clarity. An invisible set ring that presents a 2-carat face-up appearance — using multiple smaller diamonds of exceptional quality — costs a fraction of that.
The saving comes from the diamond economics: smaller diamonds of the same clarity and colour grade cost considerably less per carat than a single large stone. Invisible setting lets you access the visual impact of a large diamond without paying the solitaire premium.
At Trinity Designer Jewel, our invisible set rings start from $660 and use only natural earth-mined diamonds — VVS clarity, FG colour — set in 18-karat gold.
This is the question buyers ask most — and it deserves an honest answer.
Invisible setting is more secure than it looks, but it does require some care. The stones are held firmly by the gold rail framework, but because the mechanism is precision-engineered rather than brute-force prong grip, the ring should be treated with the respect any fine jewellery deserves.

An invisible set diamond ring is not a shortcut or a compromise. It is one of the most skilled techniques in fine jewellery — developed in France over 200 years ago, refined by master craftsmen in Bangkok today.
It gives you more visible diamond for your money. It gives your ring a surface that no prong-set design can match. And it gives the people who know jewellery something to stop and look at twice.
